Smile 03:36
Why are your eyes so sad, why do you feel so blue You can’t see the good for bad, you’ve taken it all on you You’ve got to believe in yourself You ‘ve got to believe in yourself Like I do, I believe in you You light up the world when you smile You light up the world when you smile You light up the world when you smile So smile…….smile I’ve watched you through the years, I’ve seen the good you do I know all about your fears, the burdens that lie on you You’ve got to believe in yourself You’ve got to believe in yourself Like I do, I believe in you You light up the world when you smile You light up the world when you smile You light up the world when you smile So smile….smile….smile

Don’t count your mornings till they come Don’t set your sights into the sun Take your shelter from the storm And sail when gentle winds blow Don’t try to read between my lines My words explain themselves in time There’s a world I’m living for It waits wherever I go Sailing ships they come together in the still of the night Stop awhile and then they sail away You and me we found each other in the shimmering light Now it’s time to start another day, today Princess awoken by the touch Of one who loves her very much You believe in fairy tales They mean so little to me I stole your storybooks away You try to live the things they say, Come the night you’ll call my name And I just don’t know where I’ll be
3.
Is there anyone you can see to get inside your mind To unravel your fantasy and leave it all behind I don’t know why you feel the things you do I can’t see how I was meant for you I don’t want to be the one who wants to be forever in your arms I don’t want to be the one who’s never free, a prisoner of your charms I don’t know why you feel the things you do I can’t see how I was meant for you When we’re walking along the street you want to hold my hand I’m afraid that the friends we meet will never understand It’s just one more silly thing you do Doesn’t mean that I was meant for you Now I’m lying alone in bed, I twist and turn all night Just remembering the things I said that never came out right Inspiration and suddenly I see The simple truth is you were meant for me
4.
Somebody showed me some pictures Lost in the shadows of time Hands held alone in the corner The ones that were shaking were mine Maybe I’ll see you tomorrow Maybe we won’t meet at all Slipping away at the break of the day After dancing the debutantes’ waltz I couldn’t dance at all Round and round we go, turning the fast to slow, Stay with me, please stay with me until they stop the show We are together now please don’t go Turning the overlooked pages These are the things that we find Now that the children are sleeping Come here and lie by my side Resting your head on my shoulder You hardly seem older at all You must remember I’m sure you recall We were dancing the debutantes waltz I couldn’t dance at all

Boy meets girl, happens every day First attraction doesn’t always stay But in time they come to realise it’s otherwise Set their sights and sail away Don’t let her down, don’t let her down She will always be the special one you found And you know you’d never live without her now They get married on a sunny day Throw a party then they slip away Soon they’ll find they’ll have to sacrifice and compromise When every day’s a rainy day Years go by and the kids are grown House is big but they live alone Each has little ways that drive the other mad some days They have their says and life goes on Always and ever, forever, you’d never live without her now

Barryville 03:24
Half a mile from Barryville I flagged the first car down To take me any road that leads a long way from that town. Twenty miles from Barryville I waited for a train I bought a one way ticket to begin my life again. Barryville – I see it still when I can’t sleep at night I turn away to face the day, the dark shuts out the light. A hundred miles from Barryville I tried to make a call My body shook, my voice choked up, I couldn’t speak at all A thousand miles from Barryville I sought some peace of mind But nothing fades the memories of what I left behind. They say that time heals every wound but I could not agree A million miles from Barryville’s not far enough for me.

Boardwalk 05:50
Now the carney’s cries are fading And the boardwalk’s shutting down And the cabaret has gone away, it’s over And the candyfloss containers Bib and bobbing on the tide To disappear beyond the pier forever You’ll be leaving too Those cold and grey October nights Will see you far away from here I’ll wait for you Until another summer comes Will you be back again next year? Next year. And the fortune teller wonders Whether she’ll be here next year For if truth were told she doesn’t know her future And you’re packing up your suitcase Stow it underneath the bus If we could know what lies in store for both of us…

Lovers 04:32
Sometimes I feel so tired Burdened, just uninspired Then you shine and break through the clouds in my day When you smile the clouds drift away And you will stay and I will never leave All that you say I always will believe Believe in a love, a love that endures For we are lovers, you’re mine, I’m yours For we are lovers, you’re mine, I’m yours Sometimes I’m so alone Somewhere so far from home Then I hear your voice from wherever you are And we’re near no matter how far
9.
We face into the fury of the storm And stand our ground Once more we run Homeward bound Don’t let the world overwhelm you Don’t get sad or afraid Courage my dear We’ll face your fear We’ll chase your demons away Chase all your demons away When heavy shadows gather all around Don’t turn away We two are one Always stay
10.
When the setting sun sinks over the sea And the fishing boats come home And the nightbirds serenade you and me When they see that we’re alone They see that we’re alone and then we know That this is paradise This is paradise Please tell me there’s a way that we can stay forever Forever in this place When the sun is rising over the trees And the sea is crystal clear And we feel the gentle warmth of the breeze And we want to disappear We want to disappear together here For this is paradise This is paradise Please tell me there’s a way that we can stay forever Please tell me there’s a way that we can stay forever Forever in this place

Ambushed by sunlight and birdsong A moment’s work the time it took to connect a call hear a flat tone Hair’s breadth between light and shade what we hold what we give away or have taken from us And if we retrieve can we hold cleanly a child’s faith That the sun will always rise the blackbird sing
12.
We Run 05:48
Close to the horizon We see the road dividing into two Whichever turn is taken Will be the better choice for me and you We may never pass this way again Life’s a game of chance until the end We run, we run, we run Until we fade into the sun In the deepest winter Your love is all I need to keep me warm In our darkest hour We give each other shelter from the storm Close your eyes and put your hand in mine Bound together till the end of time We run, we run, we run Until we fade into the sun When you’re weary I will pull you through Lean on me as I have leant on you We run, we run, we run Untll we fade into the sun.

My heart is writing cheques that my body just can’t cash And I’m slowing down a little every day If I try to stay up late my system starts to crash And I know exactly what it’s trying to say But I’m not growing old, not growing old I’ve still too many stories to be told I’m not growing old, not growing old I will never ever wear my trousers rolled I won’t be like those ancient relics propping up the bar Wearing cardigans Starting arguments Mixing up their names Pushing walking frames No I’m never, no not ever, growing old Not growing old, not growing old The clothes I’ve always worn are coming into style But my back goes out twice as much as me There’s nothing I can’t do but it takes a little while And I can’t remember where I’m meant to be But I’m not growing old, not growing old I’ve still too many stories to be told I’m not growing old, not growing old I will never ever wear my trousers rolled I won’t be like those ancient relics propping up the bar Wearing cardigans Starting arguments Mixing up their names Pushing walking frames Singing oldie songs With the words all wrong Talk the night away About the good old days No I’m never, no not ever, growing old Not growing old, not growing old

Salt Water 04:31
When I was a sailor on the open sea Crossing mighty oceans opened all the world to me I was just a cabin boy turning seventeen Lost in wide-eyed innocence in all the things I’d seen Pictures from the past filled a young boy’s dream But all his dreams came true Salt water is running through my veins Northern star still guides the old man home Home, sailor, through the wind and rain I will never go to sea again. When I was a master on the Southern Line They were mighty steamers then, the proudest one was mine We brought tea from China, we brought tin from Singapore Kept the food lines open in the middle of the war No-one wants an old sea dog anymore What else can sailors do?
